The Clocktower Society

THE CLOCKTOWER SOCIETY name was the idea of Dukie Paul Harrington.

Clocktower is the mark of recognition for donors to the Dukie cause. There are presently over 150 Clocktower members who have given over £500,000 in total. Membership is marked by a special badge, recognition in Dukie News and invitation to special Clocktower events.

Funds raised are paid into the School’s tied charity, The Dukies’ Foundation, registered charity no. 112864.

The idea is to help the Dukies of today. From monies raised, Clocktower members have

·        made student bursary awards, to keep students in school whose family circumstances might otherwise require them to leave. Criteria are military family + talent + proven financial hardship.

·        funded programme development giving Dukies the winning edge in sports, arts & science activities.

·        invested significantly in leadership/outdoor activities by the purchase of equipment (landrover and outdoor kit) and making student grants to ensure equal access.

·        many choose monthly subscription by standing order, the average £30pm.

·        some sponsor defined programmes and interventions for example the White Rose Academy Hockey

·        others are happier with one-off contributions from £50-100 up to £1000

·       20 supporters so far have chosen to remember the School by gifts in their wills, instructing a charitable legacy which is tax exempt (and can reduce inheritance tax). Legacy pledgers will be remembered in a Memorial Walkway at the school and are admitted to the Clocktower Society which also continues to record donors after death.
