Jim had a productive life as a musician, a champion fisherman and a driving instructor.
As a musician he was in the Royal Signals band as a clarinet player and followed that as a guitar and saxophone player in a band performing as the warm-up group to many of the famous rock groups.
He opened a fishing tackle shop in Richmond Yorkshire and fished in the premier league. He started a fishing club called the “Catch Match” and steered it up through the fishing leagues. He was champion fisherman of the North of England twice. Once he was engaged to lecture to fishing clubs on how he won a match from a peg where no-one had caught a fish before.
Later as a driving instructor he devised a system using photographs of views through car mirrors and got many pupils through the test first time.
Jim’s hobbies included metal detecting and stamp collecting. His collection of English stamps includes a selection of rare Victorian ones.
Our condolences go to his wife, Vanessa, and son Melvyn.
