In Memoriam |
Richard Davey has informed me that his father has passed away;
I wanted to let you know about the sad death of my father John Davey, who passed away at Littlebourne House Residential Home on 25th March, aged 85.
He was at DYRMS for a long time, as a pupil 1947-1954 and as a teacher 1961-1997, and as Deputy Head for much of this time.
The information we have found about John in the archive is here, more detail can be found on Your Archive.
Arthur John Davey : 11/09/1946 to 19/07/1955 Clive
In 1952 was awarded Colts (U.15) Colours, 1st XV Rugby team 1953, Captain of the Rugby 2nd XV team in 1955. Vice-Captain of the 1955 Bridge Club. Played in the 1st XI Cricket and the 2nd XI Football teams in 1955.
A staff member (1964 – 1997): Taught Chemistry, became Head of Chemistry, Haig Housemaster Wolseley Housemaster, Deputy Headmaster (pastoral)
A member of staff paid tribute to John on his retirement;
There can be little doubt that Mr Davey could long ago have moved elsewhere to a headship but the fact that he chose to see out his career here speaks for itself; the School has indeed been fortunate to have had such a dedicated servant. This all the more so when changes over the last decade, both within the School and nationally, are taken into account.
The funeral is to be held
Wednesday 13th April at Barham Crematorium, 4:00 pm.
If anyone would like to attend please can you let me know by April 8th so I can inform Richard of numbers.
