Since the launch of the Legacy Programme in 2020, the TDA have received 20 pledges from Dukies who wish to leave a legacy to the school, in their will.
In order for those Dukies to be honoured in memoriam, it was decided to start a Memorial Pathway showing their name, houses and years at school for future generations to be reminded of the legacy that they left.
The first six stones have been installed this year in the small parade square.
A small ceremony took place after Chapel on Remembrance Sunday to 'unveil' the pathway.
Don Birch spoke at the Reunion Dinner on Saturday and reiterated his message at the Ceremony on Sunday. If you did not hear Don's speech you can read it here.Don Birch speech legacy.
William John Bowler's son and daughter were in attendance as was Mark Frost (H, Wy 1999 - 2003), grandson of Godfrey Baigent.
Chris Crowcroft spoke about Peter Goble (Kitchener 1947-52), who was the first person to leave a legacy, he lost his father in the Dunkirk Retreat. On his mother's remarriage, DoYRMS became home for him, a sentiment he carried with him all his life. Rising to WO1 in the RAMC, he spent the rest of his career in NHS hospitals in Harrogate.
His private passion was genealogy and historical research in which he assisted historian of the School Art Cockerill and published in his own right. He discovered the rightful owner of the iconic Philip Morris painting 'Sons of the Brave' loaned to School, today hanging in the Dining Hall - the City of Leeds Art Gallery. His own archive is now housed in the School Archive. His brother-in-law was the actor Tom Wilkinson.
