Skye Stockings (Marlborough 2012 - 2019) writes about her experience of being a student at Dukies and the opportunities afforded to her thanks to the bursary that she received whilst at school.
I attended Dukies years 2012-2019, this being the entirety of my secondary schooling. I was very fortunate that over my seven years I was given a bursary to help assist with the financial costs of attending such a school.
Without this bursary, I would have had a very different education attending a school local to me with half the opportunities.
Due to the fact I had received a bursary I was very aware of how much of an opportunity I had and throughout my years I aimed to get everything out of the school that was given to me.
I took part in many school productions, represented the school in sports from years seven to thirteen where I was on three first teams and captained the tennis team. I was also able to complete all three Duke of Edinburghs and my Lowland expedition Leadership course.
I played in the military band and attended numerous events as well as an exchange to Philadelphia. During my sixth form I was a school prefect as well as having different ceremonial positions over the years, in my final year I was JUO of Marlborough House.
I am so thankful for the opportunities that were given to me and I honestly believe the school has had a vast impact on where I am now and who I am now.
After leaving the school I attended the University of Leicester where I graduated with a first class honours Criminology degree, I continued with my hockey and the September after graduating I was able to volunteer teaching English to children in Ghana.
I have just completed a three month trip around five countries in South America and I will be starting my masters at the University of Manchester in September 2023 reading International Law and Security. I have aspirations of a prospect career in the field of human rights.
