Dukie News |
In September this year, it will be 30 years since girls were accepted into the school for the first time in over 100 years. When girls were accepted at Chelsea from 1803, they would have been taught domestic chores and on leaving they would have been sent to a family to help around the house, whilst the boys were sent to join the army. Thankfully things have changed! I know that 30 years ago the world was a different place to what it is today, but perhaps you were a pioneer by being the first woman in your field? Did being a Dukie open doors that may otherwise not have been open to you, or did you make sure those doors opened for you because you are a Dukie? We would love to hear from you about your experience and if being a Dukie played an important role in your career path or any other part of your life.
So today Dukie Women wherever you may be, take a moment out of your day to think about how far you have come and how you got to where you are today. I am sure that whatever your role in life, being a Dukie helped to shape you.
We would love to build up a picture of the last 30 years of Dukie Women and for you to gather together photos and memories so we can build a Then & Now exhibition to hopefully display from September throughout the next academic year at alumni events, to look back but also to celebrate how far you have come.
If you have any thoughts or ideas or just to be part of it, please get in touch. We have a great Engagement & Events Team within our TDA Committee who would love to hear your ideas.
Sam Lynch, Daisy Yorke and Georgia Waddington are all on the Engagement & Events Team.
Have a great day!
Rachel
