Sons of The Brave tells the story of the sacrifices made by 409 Dukies who lost their lives fighting in the First World War. Some of the names of the fallen are memorialised on a tablet in the Chapel at School, but many of the names are missing or incorrect and this book was written to put that right. The painstaking work and research was carried out by Andy Benns, Chris Tomlinson and the late Rick Watt, who sadly and very suddenly died last September, having almost completed the book.
Andy took up the reins to see the book published and I am pleased to tell you that you can now purchase your own copy, it is available through Amazon and The Great British Book Shop, I will also be selling copies over Remembrance Weekend.
All proceeds from the book will be paid into The Rick Watt Memorial Fund which will be used to help to fund a new memorial in the Chapel with all 409 names.
This book is the follow up to Fear God Honour The King, also written by Andy, Chris and Rick (and available to purchase) which detailed the names of the soldiers who died in the Great War, who had attended the Royal Hibernian School in Dublin, which later merged with the Duke of York's in 1924.
