This year the OBA hosted their annual luncheon for its members and members of the Dukies' Association, at the Union Jack Club. The Senior Leadership team from the school attended along with some recent school leavers.
It was lovely for me to meet so many familiar names and to finally put faces to names after corresponding with many of you over the past few months! It was great to see a table of younger Dukies from the 90s cohort too.
One of our recent school leavers, Daisy, had been invited to speak about her experience as a Dukie who had benefited from the generosity of the alumni, by way of receiving a bursary for her sixth form. There was many a 'dusty eye' in the room as we listened to her heartfelt speech as she explained how much it had meant to her to be able to complete her education as a Dukie and the opportunities this allowed her to explore for the future.
Daisy has secured a fantastic 4 year apprenticeship with Amazon to study engineering which is an amazing credit to her and a great example for any aspiring female engineers particularly.
The Dukies Foundation have supported 12 such bursaries from the generous donations made by the alumni, over the past 7 years.
If you wish to find out more about how to support the Dukies Foundation and our student bursaries, please contact me at alumni@doyrms.com.
Thank you to Philip, Derek & Ted for organising the luncheon and for making us all feel so welcome.
